Plan your visit to Warm Mineral Springs in North Port, FL. The only warm spring in Florida — 85°F water with 51 dissolved minerals. A National Natural Landmark where Paleo-Indian remains 10,000+ years old were found. The state's southernmost significant spring.
Every other spring in this guide is cold. Sixty-eight degrees. Seventy-two degrees. Bracing in summer, bone-chilling in winter. Warm Mineral Springs is 85°F. Every day. Year-round.
It is the only naturally warm spring in Florida, fed by a geothermal source rather than the standard cold Floridan Aquifer, carrying more than 51 dissolved minerals — by some measures the most mineral-rich spring in the United States. The basin is 230 feet across and drops to roughly 230 feet deep, making it one of the deepest natural springs in the state. Paleo-Indian human remains and artifacts dating back more than 10,000 years have been recovered from its submerged ledges — some of the oldest human skeletal material ever found in the Americas.
It is also the only significant spring south of Tampa, and the only one in this guide where the primary risk is overheating, not hypothermia.

The Experience
Warm Mineral Springs is not like any other Florida spring. There is no tubing, no cave diving, no kayaking, and no cold shock upon entry. The experience is soaking — entering warm, mineral-rich water and staying. The 85°F temperature envelops rather than braces. Many visitors float. Many sit on the limestone ledges. Many come back every day.
The crowd is distinctive. A large portion of regular visitors are older adults, many from Eastern European and Russian backgrounds, who regard the water's therapeutic properties with a kind of reverence that borders on devotion. On any given day the spring draws a remarkably multicultural, multigenerational mix ranging from elderly regulars to curious first-timers to families with toddlers wading in the warm shallows. The atmosphere is closer to a European thermal bath than an American state-park tubing run.
Lifeguards are on duty. The park is owned by the City of North Port and draws 150,000+ visitors annually.
Activities
- Soaking in warm mineral water — the main draw, the only draw, and the reason people drive hours to get here.
- Swimming — the basin is swimmable throughout. Children can wade and swim under lifeguard supervision. The warm water is less intimidating for non-swimmers than cold springs.
- Limited snorkeling — mask-and-snorkel viewing of the vent and limestone formations. Verify current dive policies with park staff (archaeological sensitivity has historically affected access).
- Archaeological interest — the spring's Paleo-Indian history is presented via interpretive signage.
- People-watching — a genuine cultural experience unlike any other Florida spring park.

Warnings — Read This Section
Overheating is the primary risk. At every other Florida spring, the water is cold and the body cools rapidly. At Warm Mineral Springs, the 85°F water is body-temperature warm. Extended soaking — especially in summer when air temperatures reach the mid-90s — can cause genuine overheating, heat exhaustion, or heat-related illness, particularly in older adults, young children, and anyone with cardiovascular conditions. Limit soak time to 20–30 minute intervals. Take shade breaks. Drink water actively before, during, and after. Do not combine extended soaking with alcohol.
No cold-water relief. If you're visiting on a hot Florida summer day expecting the water to cool you off, this is the wrong spring. The water is warm. Plan accordingly.
Archaeological site protection. The submerged ledges and sediments are an active protected archaeological site. Do not touch, disturb, or excavate any material. Violations carry serious legal penalties.
Facility status. The historic bathhouse is under repair; expect temporary changing facilities.
Different atmosphere. Visitors expecting cold-plunge recreation, tubing, or cave-diving adrenaline will find something radically different. This is a soak, not a sport.
Last verified: May 28, 2026. Fees effective through September 30, 2026. The historic bathhouse is under renovation. Verify current facility status at northportfl.gov or call 941-429-7275.
